Year 7 Festival Lineup Announcements!
We’re a few days into January and that generally means that the announcements for our annual festival lineup are flowing from our social media sites, and that I’m also scrambling to make sure every detail is getting attended to before our festival kicks off on March 1st, 2017!
In putting this years festival together a lot of things came to mind when considering the lineup. I wanted to be sure we were honouring our initial festival vision while at the same time learning from past mistakes or oversights. Each year going into our festival I know there are always elements that I’ve overlooked, or that something will come up that is just simply beyond our control that I either have to utilize down the road or scrap entirely. Each year there are also many things that just fall nicely into place with programming without even intending it to.
This year I did my best to listen to advice given to me from other years and also to be more mindful of deadlines. Not only deadlines for the team but for myself as well. There was also a voice ringing in my head coming back from years ago by someone who helped get this whole crazy thing off the ground, Chase Robbs. He always reminded me to keep it simple. Sometimes as much as the crazy, huge, extravagant ideas may seem appealing, they tend to ultimately result in a lot of running around and effort for a minimum return.
It was with that in mind that this year’s lineup was put together and we’re now two days into announcements!
Our 1st showcase lands on March 1st, 2017 at the Red Brick Café and features Skye Wallace who is also the GAIN Music ‘Artist of the Month’ for March (more on this showcase in an upcoming post!). The 2nd Wednesday night show is in the DSTRCT Lounge in conjunction with the weekly GMarket / Arts night and features Guelph’s New Old (more on this showcase coming soon too!)
The Thursday, March 2nd showcases will be hosted at DSTRCT & the DSTRCT Lounge. The Lounge show details are still to come, but the DSTRCT showcase is one you will not want to miss! It features Guelph’s Cavan Bros. who will be taking over the DSTRCT stage for a 2+ hour long compilation mash-up set of a bunch of their projects! Featuring songs from Sinister Trailer Park Magic, (U) the Band, Got Social & The Long Dark Road all in one big, long, epic set!
In addition to this mash-up there will be another mash-up of sorts on this same night as well. This one, features a man who can only be described as a human hurricane, is a part of multiple projects and has played a bunch of shows on various Guelph & area stages over the past few years. While moving here for school a few years back the local music scene took him in as one of it’s own and he’s began to make a name for himself as one of Guelph’s craziest and unique performers
We’re very excited to announce that opening for the Cavan Bros. on the Thursday night Festival showcase will be Derek Schaller along his various projects including, but not limited to, Frenemy, White Girl Wasted & Survived the Zombies!
More to come on this show and the rest of the festival!
